Time for Performance Mods 987.2 Base -- Advice Needed.

Dear friends, I own a Porsche Cayman 2.9 and its time for me to do some performance mods.
I have read most of the topics but I am quite confused so your advice is highly valuable and will also help many members that are in the same position.

I have selected to do the following 2 mods:
1) First of all if I am correct I need to install an exhaust

I have decided to go with P87-2 Carnewal GT exhaust made from new Cayman R mufflers.

P87-2 Carnewal GT exhaust made from new Cayman R mufflers - Carnewal

The reason i have selected it is that I do not like to have any drone.

Does it worth the 1700euro it requires ?
Have anyone install this one in Cayman 2.9?
The sound will be like cayman s pse with open valves ?
Any videos with base cayman ?
Can i also install a Valve System on Carnewal ?

2) Plenum and Throttle Body + Program
Here there is too much confusion as I have read 4 options:

A) 74mm or 80mm IPD Plenum + GT3 Throttle Body and Softronic Program to avoid any check engine lights.

B) 74mm or 80mm GT3 Plenum + GT3 Throttle Body and Softronic Program

Someone members say that 80mm is not appropriate for 2.9 and I should go for 74mm for cayman 2.9.

C) IPD Plenum + IPD Throttle Body and Softronic Program

D) Softronic Race Plenum + GT3 Throttle Body and Softronic Program

Which way I should follow ?
What are the differences between the 4 of them ?

Which one is more safe to avoid problems ?

Any help is highly appreciated.
Thank you.

My advice... none of the above. I think you will spend $8k with bolt-on goodies and the car will be louder but turn slower laps on a race track. Probably not the advice you expected..

If you want it louder, go for the exhaust. If you want faster laps:
1. Tighten the loose nut behind the steering wheel.
2. Mount excellent tires and get it setup to maximize your contact patch.
3. Remove 200 lbs from the car.

These three things will typically drop lap times by 8-10 seconds or more. All those bolt on mods will likely add a second or two per lap. Choose to spent your time and $$ where it will make a real measurable difference.

Re: Time for Performance Mods 987.2 Base -- Advice Needed.

There are a number of threads on P9 on this topic, with arguments going both ways. Not being flip, but do the research on this forum. Also find google is better at getting you results than the forum search. I have the same car and find that if you want to spend money to build torque, sell it and by a 3.4 motor car. Remember, those that have something to sell you will typically state how great that product is.

If you want to build power this motor is not a low end torque monster no matter what. Also get your head around the fact that the buy in price of the car is nothing compared to what your costs will be going forward with this car, everything for a P car is very expensive. That said welcome.

Thanks for your reply.
I actually do not race my car, just want to give it a boost.
Thus, you actually think that ipd+tb+program will not give it any boost from low rpm ?

Re: Time for Performance Mods 987.2 Base -- Advice Needed.

I had a 2007 2.7 liter years ago and I did the Softronic Tune,Plenum ,K &N air filter De-snorked and fabspeed catless headers with stock exhaust (HAD ZERO DRONE )and it sounded fantastic ! it was significantly faster so i would think the 2.9 would be even better being a slightly bigger motor. I often tracked it and raced against the S Models and it was a dead even straight away race to 80MPH or so then the 3.4 pulled me .If i had to do it all over again i would :) it made the ownership experience 100x better IMO .go for it

What Plenum and TB have you bought ?
Have you done them all together or step by step ?

I have read that with headers you get more torque above 4000rpm while you loose on low rpm. (regardless of the 10 -15 hp you get).
I can not risk to loose on low rpm.
Thanks.

My 2 cents . In general, not just these cars, intake and exhaust dont give much bang for the buck {Euro} . Compression gives real power. By compression, I mean boost. If you can get good fuel, a turbo will get you some power and fuel mileage and not cost much more than the aftermarkrt intake/exhaust.

GroupJ-I would suggest your start your own thread rather than waiting for a 6 year old thread to be answered.
