Will Cayman R Owners Trade for 981 S?

I am curious if Cayman R owners are tempted to trade for the 981 S. I would have to do a literal side-by-side compare of my CR before I could say for sure but leaning towards staying with the CR due to the 550 and Dino influenced stying affinity. I was reminded of that at Sebring 12 hours when I spent about a half hour looking at and talking to a fellow with a red 1972 Dino in the Paddok.

Where did you hear/read that?!!

Not no but hell no.
You surprise me! I still fail to see how is the 987R better than the 987S... I understand the slight weight difference but still I can't see it!

I would have to agree about the suspension including being lowered and what was packaged with it. One can get close with an S if you want to do all the adds and some takeaways. I drove an S for 3 years and loved it. The R was just an enhancement to the overall performance. I can tell you that in twisties where I was working the S pretty hard, the R handles it with relative ease. Porsche just did a nice job with it as the last enhancement to the 987.......kinda like what they did with the 997 GTS.....balanced blend putting all the right bits together. I expect that in a few years when they come out with the R version or some variation of it on the 981, it could be fun to see if it is sufficiently improved that I would want to move off the R.

While of course a new generation does catch your eye, I'm still in love with my R as I too feel Porsche "dialed it in" perfectly with this last edition of the 987.2. Plus, I also get some appeal knowing I'm driving a relatively rare car (didn't another post say <500 caymans sold in usa during 2012?). While I haven't read how many R's were produced, numbers like that suggest to me there are few out there.

The CR is more raw. It is less plush and finished than the 981. Additionally I really dislike the newer interior setup and some of the exterior changes, such as the Panny-butt. If I didn't have a somewhat tricked out Miata for my top down driving fix I would consider a Boxster as an addition to, but not as a replacement for, my CR.

I just saw the 981 cayman s in the metal at the New York auto show yesterday. It was a beautiful car, however I personally think the R looks better because it sits lower, is more unique, and looks more aggressive with aero package in the contrasting colors. I wouldn't trade my cayman R a for 981 s.

The 987 is a tribute in styling to the 904, the Dino shares similar features to the 904. Porsche did not make a styling tribute to a Ferrari, but rather one of the greatest racing Porsches ever.

No way. IMO, nothing in the 981S is an improvement over the 987 R. Ascetically, the new interior is way to luxury car looking to me, and I haven’t been won over by the new center console. The performance in the CR is pretty hard to beat. Nope, not a chance. If Porsche comes out with a new R or GT3 type, that may get my interest.

Not for me, would just result in money burnt.
What I'm more curious is anything past the 981S the upcoming years. We know there will be a 981R, but I still have that thing in my head, that Porsche works on a GT4-Version. Don't know if they'll ever do it, but that would be fantastic!

Speaking of next steps: I prefer a 997 MKII GT3 more as a next step, but don't know if I want to rob my bank account again the next years. What about you guys, do you want to stick to Cayman or does anyone else fancy a GT3?

Not a Cayman owner but I love GT3s. I will definitely buy one in the future but not as a replacement for my Spyder. It will be an addition to the garage, which means that it may have to wait a while.. it's a lot of money to spend for someone who doesn't even own a house! Not to mention I want to become a good enough driver first; something that became even more poignant after a buddy crashed his GT3 at VIR.

Probably a house with 2+ garage in the nearer future, and GT3 later when the time is right. Most likely a used 997 GT3 (RS would be preferred) as I'm not sold on 991 GT3 at this point.

Uh oh, I just traded my CR for a 991 C2S! Haha. The CR was definitely awesome. But, for me, I realized I valued comfort and little luxury over race car feel. My lower back and butt was sore after a couple hours of driving in the Sport Buckets! Plus, I needed a couple more seats.

...and I like power.

Though not an R, I wouldn't trade my CS for new Cayman, as much as I appreciate the new generation and it is a beautiful design, I like the 987.2 way more, it's more organic, curvy and exudes old world looks, whatever that means....... And don't forget the rarity factor, specially for 2009-2012 cars, production numbers were ridiculously low for last generation cars, you get all the improvements plus smaller production. Again, the new Cayman is a knockout, If I was in the market now for a car and I didn't own my CS, I would probably get the new CS, as theres nothing out there that comes close to piquing my interest.
