Well, my cayman got rear ended but the good part is that I am ok, just a bit of neck pain and it is gradually going away.

From the look of the picture, do you think there is damage to the engine or transmission?
Cost of the damage? Any comment is appreciated.

The person who rear ended me was properly traveling at about 50KM/H.

The engine could start but would shut off in about 30 sec. Also, the seat belt would not pull out. Is this some sort of a safety feature?

The seat belts lock in an accident like that, but you can release them slowly. From the pics it doesn't look like anything intruded beyond the aluminum sub bumper behind the plastic one so hopefully a new bumper is all you need and/or some minor work behind it, they'll probably swap out the aluminum bumper behind the plastic one if it took the brunt of the damage. I see no way that it got to the engine or tranny, if the engine won't continue to run it could either be a safety feature in the event of an accident, or simply something was jarred loose somewhere.

sorry too see that atleast u are ok, and hopefully you get no rubbish from the insurance and covers you without hassle. Best idea, If its anymore than pure cosmetics IMO get it fixed and get it sold a smashed cars never feels the same once its repaired.

Good luck

Glad you're OK.

+1 to that. The crumple zone has done it's job and saved you from being seriously injured. It won't be the same after, and metal will not give in the way it was designed. I know it is sad, but if you can afford it I would sell it and get another. Oh, and count your blessings. :)

Wow that looks like you really took a good jolt. As it has been indicated, glad you're okay. The only way you will know if there is more damage then the obvious is to get it to a dealer and let them take the rear end apart to look for further damage.

Good luck with the repairs and the recoop...

Wow, that sucks!,.....but I'm sure you know that already.

Doesn't look too bad though, a new bumper cover and some associated parts and you should be near good to go. It does look like the rear exhaust outlet took a bit of a hit, so it most likely bent something further in,....have whomever does the work really look it over. The engine start thing could be anything, but I don't see it being a major issue, probably something simple.

Hopefully all the metal is untouched, it looks like it. I wouldn't mind replacing a bumper cover, but I hate to see metal crunched. Good luck with its recovery!

To be honest, as long as there is no chasis damage, you are fine. Judging by the picture, there is no damage and I believe it will cost around $4-7K (US) to repair.

If the chasis (frame) is not damaged and you have a reputable shop to repair it (focusing on paint lines, even gaps, etc.), you probably cannot tell the difference when you drive the car.

The car looks a lot worse than it actually is because of the plastic bumber, which can bend in all types of ways even by hitting a pole at 5 mph.

dang! those bumperettes really do their job.

what hit you?

Glad you are OK. Cars can be replaced, necks.. arms... legs... etc. can not.

Good luck and hope all works out well for you

OH MY GAWD!! That is my worst fear! I am so glad you are ok!!!
This happened in Alberta. Are you in Calgary? I have a CS just like yours in Calgary. It made my heart sink to see your CS damaged like that.
Was the guy who hit you so mesmerized by your beautiful car that he hit you? What happened?

I suspect your neck is very very sore. Car will be OK.

Ok I understand the issue of selling but who would you sell it to... someone on this board and what advice would you give them about buying a car that was in an accident. Not sure I see the logic. Is it being suggested that the car be sold to some unsuspecting person who is not a club member. I don't get the recommendation.

I would never suggest such a thing as deceiving someone. There are plenty of people that would willingly buy a car that has previous damage as a way of getting a discount on the automobile. I have sold three cars with repaired damage. All the damage was disclosed and all parties got what they wanted out of it. To me, one of the main reasons I buy higher end modern cars in addition to performance is their safety, with regards to the stability systems, airbags, and crumplezones. Some people do not put safety as high on their list as I do and would gladly sacrifice repaired damage for a more affordable car.
