Talked to my dealer today and my car is at the port and should be here by the weekend if I'm lucky.
They wanted to charge me $300 for the clear side markers and that's after I bargained them down from $395 so I said no thanks. I remember seeing them for around $30-40 but I can't find the link. Can someone help?
I googled and found this http://www.automotion.com/productpage.aspx?pid=110221&name=Clear+Side+Marker+Lenses+987/997/Cayman+S
but I'm not sure if those are the correct ones? I remember seeing them cheaper.

Also, I'm not sure if this should go into the mods section so feel free to move it if the moderators think it would be more appropriate there.

$400??? Oh my goodness..check out any reputable Porsche dealer. Carlsen in CA will sell them to you over the internet for like $30. Easy to self install without any special tools. by the way, you just bought a $60-70k car. Tell the dealer they had better damn swap out the side markers for you for free, and if you arrive to pick up the car and that isnt' done, the deal is off. That's nuts. cost to them is $15 and 5 min of work to keep you happy with a giant purchase. shame on them for their behavior.

$300 to put on clear sidemarkers? What dealership said that? They're $60, tops and usually cheaper than that... my salesman gave them to me as a thank you. And they take 10 minutes to put on... so thaere can;t be $250 in labor... wow.

Go to our sponsor bumperplugs.com - they have them, or another site sponsor Suncoast Porsche has them, too.

wow...

I concur with Santa Fe - Please purchase from Site Sponsors and advertisers whenever possible and let them know you saw their ads here so they know that their ads are working. Both BumperPlugs and Suncoast have clear side markers and I'm sure other sponsors can get them too so please give them the first shot at your business!!

I got my clear side markers through my local dealer. I had the parts guy order the European clear lens, left and right separately for about $27 each. It took about a month for them to arrive from Germany. They put them in for free which takes about a minute. They just pop off and on easy. The lenses come with an amber bulb already installed and you can also order replacement amber bulbs as well. fyi, from 2005 on, all 997, 987, which now includes the Cayman, all share the exact same side marker lenses parts and are completely interchangeable. I will get the exact Porsche part numbers for you guys as well as the current price and post them for you shortly. Edited by - Coupe-de-Gras on 04/17/2006 10:14:08 PM

Wherever you buy them, make certian that you 'load' the spring a little more prior to snapping them in. Otherwise, they can be a little loose. I wound up removing mine, loading the springs and reinstalling them. Now they fit real snug.

I just ordered a pair from bumperplugs, it did cost me a few more $$$ than suncoast but bumperplugs offers fedex shipping :). This isn't the place for me to bash UPS, but I avoid them whenever possible due to repeated issues.

*edit* they've arrived and are on the car, they make a bigger improvement than I thought. I wanted to give Eric at Bumperplugs a shout out for excellent communication, would be happy to buy future products from him.

im new to this site and just got my cayman two days ago. i stumbled on this site after googling for clear side markers for about an hour! I just ordered mine from BumperPlugs.com along with a door plug to cover the key hole in the driver side door handle.... they will match it with the color of your car.
