When you format the ssd, what sytem do you format it to_ ex Fat, Fat 32 or nothing.

I have a couple af usb to SATA adapters ro connect both drives to, but unsure how to set up the new SSD drive. I have Macrium Reflect for Windows as well as Mac. I'd prefer to use my Mac rather than muy ancient W7 laptop.
My existing PCM 3.1 drive is worjing perfectly at the moment (touch wood) but I'd feel happier pre empting a failure.

Usually, you're cloning from the existing drive (bit by bit copy). That's what most hardware copiers do. For this reason, there is no need to format the new drive... its format will be overwritten by whatever is required by the original/source drive.

I believe Macrium calls this an "image", so you'd image it to a backup, and then image back down to the SSD. I don't recall if Macrium has a "clone" option, but that should work as well.

Not necessarily… I have a hard drive cloning device and can clone my HDD to your SSD.

So how might we get that done? I send you a SSD (which format?) I have the mSATA 64 GB SSD in this MINI PCIE m SATA to 2.5" SATA. I also have the red 2.5" IDE adapter for the mSATA which fits the PCE.
My HDD has bad sectors and shows up as 53MegTerraBytes. Yes.

Send me a compatible SATA SSD and I’ll clone my HDD to it and send back (via your postage paid shipping label).

ELCID86 made me a copy and I have cloned it with Clonezilla, but don't have any online storage large enough to hold it. It's a little over 17GB. If anyone has some shared storage online they would like to donate to the cause, I can upload it.

Last week my PCM (3.1, 2014 Cayman S) was on the fritz. The Nav stopped working, and the unit kept rebooting every 5-10 minutes. I tried "resetting" it by pulling the fuse for 30 minutes or so, but that didn't resolve the issue. I then tried re-applying the 4.76 update via the DVD, but the update would fail about 90% of the way through with an error that it couldn't write files, and then the system just kept rebooting in to emergency update mode.

As a hail marry, I pulled out the drive (it's a 100GB sata 2.5 inch drive located at the top of the unit.) to see if I could get my pc to at least see it. Sure enough I was able to see the partitions, so I ran some diagnostics on it. These came up with bad blocks.

I ran down to Best Buy and grabbed a 120 gb PNY solid state drive off the shelf for $20. Using Clonezilla, I cloned the failing drive to the new SSD. There were a few bad blocks on the old drive, but it was mostly successful. I was primarily trying to get the boot sector anyway. Inserted the cloned SSD into the unit and bench booted it. It did boot into emergency update mode again (I suspected it would), but I popped the update disc in figuring "what's the worst that could happen?"

The update ran completely and successfully! I popped the entire unit back in the car and everything works flawlessly. It didn't copy over my jukebox files, but the nav, saved destinations, phone settings, presets, and even my lap recordings all copied over. Overall the unit seems a little quicker and more responsive - likely as a result of the SSD - and I suspect the SSD will be more reliable as it's less sensitive to vibration and heat than the traditional drive that was in there. If your PCM hasn't failed yet, perhaps this would be a preventative measure? The SSD is $20, and the Software Update disc is another $23 shipped. For under $45 seems like it would be an opportunity to save some cash in the long run vs. a Porsche replacement.
Having a problem with my 2015 porsche cayman. Earlier last year it started to reboot every couple of seconds. I read that putting in the 4.76 update would solve the issue. I bought it and installed, it seemed to fix the issue until last week. While driving the PCM reset. I tried to put the 4.76 disc in the PCM to see if the issue would be fixed but it put me into emergency update. The disc loads to 98% then fails at .placeholder. Next step, I took out the HDD and cloned over to the SSD. The SSD cloned but it is still stuck in emergency update mode. I inserted the 4.76 update disc and it fail once again. This where I am stuck. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I can send you a clone on an SSD but not sure if it will solve your issues. LMK if I can help.

Can I arrange for a clone ssd my 2014 cayenne drive is failing. Also is the pcm 3.1 software version 4.76 iso 4.472 gb?
Thanks,
Charles
PM me and I may be able to help.

I need help as my PCM reboots too often for the Update to work - I tried re-imaging the drive on an SSD and it worked, but I thing the Boot or OS is bad. as yours worked, and you have a copy of the 3.1 drive - Can I buy a copy of it from you? you can call me 4163022229 Walter
Thank you Walter for the SSD. Plugged in and worked like a charm. Respect. Price was very reasonable. Super quick shipping also. Made my week/weekend.
Thanks to everyone who made this inevitable upgrade possible.

If you are computer-inclined, I uploaded a Clonezilla of the @ELCID86 disk image here: PCM 3.1 v4.76 Clonezilla

Go to Clonezilla.org to download Clonezilla. Once you have the Clonezilla live iso or zip file, please follow this Live CD/USB doc to put it on the USB boot media.

Put the unzipped PCM files from the linked zip file above in \home\partimag\Pcm (or folder name of your choosing) so you can access them directly from your Clonezilla bootable USB. Use the device-image option and the restoredisk function to overwrite your new SSDD with the image. There are further instructions here: Restore Disk Image

Thanks for doing that. Should help those who are semi technical. I’m still happy to send a cloned SSD as needed.
May I Please get a cloned SSD?

I am happy to pay, send the SSD you recommend and pay for shipping.

Please let me know if the offer is still standing.

I have a 2015 Carrera 4 GTS with XM, NAV, Chrono and what not. Will that be an issue?

thank you!!

Thanks for this. I downloaded a copy and have stored it on my NAS, just in case someone needs it in the future. I can also do the copy for others if needed, but I figure @ELCID86 has that covered, so I don't want to confuse matters.

Happy to hear you got it working. Your experience was basically exactly what mine was. Drive had a bad block. Cloned it. System went into emergency update. Ran update and everything was perfect after that.
This is what mine is doing? Does anyone have the link to the “USB” update? I’m in the French/English Emergency stage.

thank you!
