Theres a new GT4 imminent - I would stay away from tracked GT4s, especially out of warranty - two many 3rd cog problems on tracked vehicles. (seen two myself going for the slow drive).
I wouldn't buy a car out of warranty especially one that will be over $100,000. I haven't heard anything about a new GT4. I would prefer a new one over a used one. Hopefully the new one will be less the wing.

I was with him till he said that he replaced the 718 with a Panamera and loved the latter. WTF?!

Let's review: He bought a 718, but doesn't like electric steering, turbo engine, the sound, the Japanese car overall feel and the something-or-the-other that rattles. His conclusion - it doesn't feel like a Porsche. And then he buys a Panny and is in love.

My conclusion: All his colleagues at the Ministry of Silly Walks made fun of him for not driving a limousine.

If you've seen this guys' videos, he seems to buy a new car every 6 months. I think somewhere in the span of the last year he had a Carrera 4S or something. I guess he needs room for his stuffed animals and/or his cat, and the back seat of the Panny just does it for him. I am convinced he models himself on Reggie Mantle, but is just a Jughead.

agree, I have a friend that regularly tracks his 16' CGTS and he blew out third gear with only 2000 mi. on the clock. This happened on the track but fortunately Porsche covered under warranty.

July PCNA sales 987 vs 981 vs 718 in first full launch years as far as I can tell.

What surprises me is how well the 981 sold long after they had stopped making them and were switching the factory over to the 718. I do remember last year, well into June there were a dozen 981 Caymans in stock at my local dealer and no Boxsters. Those Caymans all were eventually sold (not even really discounted) and a few months later the 718 Caymans showed up, alongside the Boxsters that had begun coming in before. The big mistake Porsche made with their in-stock models was pushing the $85k-plus loaded vehicles when they should have had more basic models (<$70k) to choose from, though I saw more of those at the time I bought in January.

But launch vehicles are typically loaded with options. So it's not unique to the 718. The difference this time is that it was more challenging to sell 718 launch cars than it was for the 981 or 987. Based on the sales comparison between the launch years of the 987, 981, and 718 provided by Chow, I have to believe that Porsche executives are taking a hard look at 718 sales. I'm certain that there's a sales number threshold for all models that will trigger action, and I wouldn't be surprised if the Cayman is approaching that threshold number. If the launch year sales are poor, what can be expected for the second year in the model run?

Bear in mind that nationally, overall auto sales are down for the 7th month in a row, according to an article in the WSJ today. National auto sales grew for a record 7 consecutive years, and 2017 is now expected to be a down year for autos. They also mentioned that a lot of late model cars are now coming off lease. Plant shutdowns are expected. I notice the Chevy Volt plant is shutting down for at least a month.
Porsche dealer have seen their new sports car allocations cut 10% by PCNA/PAG. So declines in sales are to be expected...

Sales are sales. The fact overall sales are down does not change this model is down 50% from 981 sales and 33% of 987 sales. Is the rest of the industry down to 33%? 2006 auto sale ~14.6M. 2013 ~15M. No, that is a rationalization technique.

As they do every year. What makes this year special? They always come off lease.

Then there should be ZERO 718 in stock. Instead, its easy to find them sitting on lots. There was a time there were NO Macans sitting on lots. Now there are many. When there were no Macans, that was true supply not keeping up with demand. If you cut production, its because there is no demand. If they didn't cut supply, more would be sitting on lots.

Actually I believe that Dealers are adjusting to the lack of 718 demand. There are four Porsche Dealers within an hour of my home. Three of them have only two Caymans and one has only one Cayman, a 2016 718. On the other hand if you are in the market for a 911 or Macan or Panamera or Cayenne, you'll have lots to choose from. The Dealer closest to me for example, Porsche of Towson, has 7 911s, 5 Cayennes, and 11 Macans but only 2 Caymans in its new car inventory.

Dunno where you are but Tysons corner has 4. Arlington has 8. Silver Spring has 10. Rockville has 5. That's 27 718 within 20 sq miles or so. Thats a lot of interest piling up sitting there in lots.

That's probably the fewest I've seen / heard are at Tyson's. They were running a steady flow of about 6-8 models in stock not long ago, though it seems there are fewer Boxsters now, consistent with their supposedly increased demand. Ten at Silver Spring is a lot, possibly a "demographic" issue compared to other areas (via-a-vis Tysons and Rockville)? Rockville had a lot of 718's with $90k-plus sticker prices about 6 months ago which is pretty extreme, even with the expensive Miami Blue and Orange paint.....

OK, I see 4 at Towson. 1 at Annapolis. 5 at Len Stoler. That's 37 718 cars within an hour or so radius. Sounds like a lot to me.

Porsche of Towson has 2 and Len Stoler Porsche has 1. According to their web site Porsche of Rockville has 2 Caymans and Silver Spring has 4. Are you adding new and used cars to your total? I'm listing only new 718 Caymans

One has to wonder, if you remove any executive demo cars and service loaners, how many privately owned 718s are actually on the road within that same hour radius. Is that number more or less than 37 (considering how many months these have been on sale and how few are sold per month, then broken down to this specific metro region)?

I bought from Arlington earlier this year and figured this out about their website - the new cars that don't have pictures haven't arrived yet. I also was just over in that area a couple weeks ago (while all those on their site were still showing). They actually only have 2 718 Boxsters and 1 718 Cayman. 2 out of those 3 are priced over $100K so will probably continue to sit for ages. And all 3 of them are Miami Blue. Love the color, but for sure not everyone's cup of tea.

When I searched the dealers in the area while I shopped I found that their inventory frequently didn't match their webpage.
