I bought from Arlington earlier this year and figured this out about their website - the new cars that don't have pictures haven't arrived yet.
Yes, its pretty well known that if there is a real picture of the car, its there. A placeholder is for incoming, which also might be sold. I don't think this is unique to Porsche as I've seen this for other car brands as well.

Chow - The point I'm making is that there aren't many new 718s on dealers' lots. Now that's not to suggest that they are selling well. I expect that the contrary is the case and that dealers aren't ordering them because they aren't selling well. I suspect that the 718 isn't selling well because most people are not interested in sports cars, and the ever dwindling number of sports car buyers are very demanding. Most of the owners of sports cars in my area are in the 50+ demographic. The 40 and under demographic seems to be attracted to utilitarian SUVs.

It is true that , most people are not interested about sports cars, however, a large number of previous Cayman owners, (sports cars customers), are not interested in the 718 Cayman. (my opinion from anecdotal evidence). Thus the dismal sales figures.

Cheers

One has to wonder, if you remove any executive demo cars and service loaners, how many privately owned 718s are actually on the road within that same hour radius. Is that number more or less than 37 (considering how many months these have been on sale and how few are sold per month, then broken down to this specific metro region)?
The 718 has been out for a while now and I don't see that many around my neck of the woods, I live in an affluent community, haven't seen a single one. I work in an affluent area and drive through another affluent community, saw one red 718 Cayman base and just last week, saw one white BS. There aren't that many on the road. The weather was in the 90's and sunny last week so can't blame it on the weather either. I see more new Audi R8 on my daily commute than 718's

There are a lot here, I haven't seen more than 1 or 2 981's on the dealers's lot, as far as the 718 goes, there are 10 plus 718's on the lot. They are also giving out discounts to try to sell them, something you rarely see with the 981's.

Nearly 10% discounts during the summer months on a new model says it all. I would be surprised if dealers ever gave that kind of a discount on 981s .

Egads the 718 isn't doing well, I hope that sales pick up asap!

Haven't you heard? The 718 is being replaced by the 981.2 which will be normally aspirated and have an engine that produces 350 HP. ;)
I bet that hypothetical Cayman would sell quite well, and not require 10% discounts to move them.

Oh goodie, glad to see this thread hasn't died. It slowed down for a while and I was afraid it might have outlived its usefulness.

I guess every month that 718 sales are less than the numbers from last year, the thread will be renewed. So that means us 718 owners can get our monthly dose of schadenfreude from the usual suspects.

To 718 owners this thread has to be like a canker sore in your mouth. You know the dam thing is there, but there's an irresistible impulse to explore the area with your tongue just to make sure. ;)

That nearly made me literally laugh out loud. Good stuff!

I get that the 718 is polarizing, I knew that when I made the decision over the other cars I was considering.

What gets me is we have this thread yet another member decides to take a dump on the 718 with an all new thread about how he test drove the 718 and just couldn't pull the trigger due to the sound. While that's not new thread worthy material, at least this member test drove the car before complaining about it. I'll give him that!

Not true and I find that insulting. http://www.planet-9.com/718-chat/140817-worst-718-review-48.html#post1776570 When sales ticked up, I made sure to highlight AND the fact it went in the opposite direction of 987 and 981 sales for that month.

718 sales tick UP. This contradicts 987 and 981 sales in June for first year which ticked down for June.

The point is to track a full year for each series and it would disingenuous on my part to not do the entire year, regardless of which direction sales go.

Auto sales in general are down, yes. But on the whole performance variants of most cars are actually selling fairly well. One would think that such sales health would extend to any all new (err, mostly new?) sports cars.

As an aside I've only seen three 718s out in the wild, and all on the interstate in and around Charlotte. I live in Raleigh, and haven't seen a single one here. I've seen more Ferrari 458's around Raleigh in 2017 than 718s! (3 to 0)

Certainly didn't mean to insult you personally, however I think the trend is pretty clear for the year, no?

The 718 is not selling as well as the 98x. End of story?

I didn't mean personally, just the idea that I wouldn't be fair. I don't care one way or the other how sales go. These are just facts (which is difficult these days with Fake News everywhere ;) )

Porsche of Towson has 2 and Len Stoler Porsche has 1. According to their web site Porsche of Rockville has 2 Caymans and Silver Spring has 4. Are you adding new and used cars to your total? I'm listing only new 718 Caymans
Just for comparison purposes, both Hennessy and Perimeter in Atlanta are Porsche Premiere dealers. Between them, they have 26 Cayman 718's (2017-18) and 42 Boxster 718's, according to their respective websites.

Just don't let the negativity get you down. I owned 911s for decades and there was always some negativity when other models were released by Porsche. I test drive both the base and 718S models, and I really enjoyed their low end torque, handling, and beautiful interior and exteriors. The turbo lag was very minimal, and I probably wouldn't have noticed it if I weren't searching for it. I prefer the sound of my 981S to the 718, but that's just my subjective opinion. Bottom line is that the 718 has a lot to offer, and I along with the vast majority of other Porsche enthusiasts have a lot of admiration for either the base or S models. Any car that fast has to be admired by any car enthusiast. :)

Just wondering how that number compares to the dealers prior years 981 inventory. You have to be careful with large dealer web site inventories because they show customer custom ordered cars as part of their inventories.

All you have to say is na na na na na my 718 is faster than your 981. And then stop replying to the thread. Its like a troll killing spear that cuts to the heart of the real issue. I switched from a 981 to a 718 (with a TT in the middle for good measure). Not a second thought or regret. I have only seen 1 other 718 in the Denver area since i got it and i like it that way. Not that there is a large difference in appearance to the casual observer.
