Re: The Worst Review of any Porsche I've read

Back to cars, what's the next GT4? A 718 with a 6? A 4?? Or is there nothing in the future?

I am looking at the past for my future Porsche purchases (potential). Check out this air-cooled 911.Used 1997 Porsche 911 Carrera

Looks nice and a beauty. I will be looking for a 991 GTS with with the 3.8 L and a manual over the coming years. Unless I am dead of course. Hopefully full of expensive scotch in my belly.

Good idea! But I fear that will ruin my craft beer and vegan pizza. There is only so much a dude can do.
Guys, I'm afraid this whole global warming thing might be my fault. My mom was always yelling at me to close the front door, because "you're heating the whole neighborhood!" Sorry, I was young and I didn't understand the consequences.

True! We are fortunate, to own such a fine example of modern engineering.
The good thing about this new car being called "982" could potentially be that your 981 will be only 10 years away from having parts available on Porsche Classic. I have a 987.1, and I believe the 10 years didn't start for my car until after the 987.2 ended production.

FWIW I think we will not have to endure turbo 4-cylinders for long. The combustion thing is probably going bust soon.

I don't quite understand why they do not already make a 981/718 equivalent to the Tesla Roadster. They could even sacrifice a trunk for more battery. People would have a blast with that one.

Re: The Worst Review of any Porsche I've read

For what it's worth, the reviews convinced me... to buy a C7 Z51 instead of waiting for the 718 Cayman.

Nice! I think I would be ok with that choice too personally though I can't get over how shoddy the build quality is even on a Z06! Walked away and straight in to the arms of a Spyder!

We will not have to endure it long because it will be discontinued for lack of sales, not because it is going electric.

Cheers

I never drove a Z06, but I've driven a C7 Z51 on many occasions and it's an awesome performance car. As far as build quality is concerned, it certainly is an improvement over the C6 and should satisfy most car buyers. The C7 Z51 is quite competitive in performance with a 991S which stickers for nearly double the price of a C7. Moreover, don't be mislead by 0-60 times published in magazines for a 981S and C7. A 981S with PDK using launch control has a competitive time with a C7 Z51, but from a roll the C7 will blow away any 981 model. The 465 lb-ft of torque on a C7 gives you tremendous acceleration through the rev range.

I think this is the interesting question. The 991.2 GTS will be a 3.0 L engine like the Base and the S with just more boost. There is no 3.8L engine anymore for the Spyder and GT4 to steal from unless Porsche opens up the production line again. However I think they got most of the HP gains our of the 3.8L NA engine so there would be not much improvement if they kept it a 3.8L NA engine. PAG did say (I forget who) that the GT cars will be kept NA though so I'm not sure what is going to happen.

If I had to guess, the GT4 and Spyder will get the 991.2 GTS engine and they will figure out how to make it fit with the Turbos. Who knows?

I'd much rather have the trunk.

I've been told by my dealer that the 3.8L NA motor will be in the next GT4. I've been told many other things by many other dealers in regards to production of future GT4s, though, to be fair. I think Porsche has made it rather clear, though, that the car would have a NA engine, and they've also made it clear that the 718 has the room for it. So, my anticipation is a continuation of NA in the next car. When that will happen, who knows, but my deposit is in...

I don't want the cool engine to be reserved for GT4 and GT3. That way there's no convertible.

Re: The Worst Review of any Porsche I've read

There was a reason why the 718 was rolled out in Beijing and not Los Angeles. This car was made for the Chinese market, not the US. There are millions of new middle class Chinese that don't know what a Flat-6 NA Porsche sounds like. Porsche is dying to sell entry level cars to this group. The 718 will be a flop in the US. Let's see how it fairs in China.

In contrast, here is an EVO review of the 911. Very positive including the exhaust note despite not being equipped with PSE.

I agree. I'm betting Porsche thinks they will get existing Boxster/Cayman owners to go to 911 in the US and focus on Chinese market to get first time Porsche buyers with 718. Most drivers in China won't care about turbo 4 as Porsche will be status symbol. Most sit in traffic or are drive in urban environs.

Can say im not interested in 718 and would buy 911 at this point if I hadn't scooped up one of the last 981 cars

Evo has always been aligned to my driving style and opinions of cars. They have only confirmed what I had assumed the 718 blow box would be. Good news is these cars will be depreciating pigs that will be a bargain in 3 years. I may pick one up cheap for a beater commute car!

Re: The Worst Review of any Porsche I've read

Yesterday I went by my Porsche dealership and looked at a 981 Black Edition. The salesman worked up some numbers and I decided to trade. I'm picking it up today.

I had trouble sleeping last night because I wasn't sure that I was doing the right thing. Should I get this car? Maybe I should wait and get a 718??? But the 981 Black Edition sorta' cool. It is a flat-six and one of the last flat-sixes to come off the line. But a flat-four turbo might be cool. After reading that I think I made the right decision.

I sincerely hope that the 718 succeeds. I'm not against it. I guess I am just not 100% for it right now. Maybe I will look at one three or four years down the road.
There ya go. Let it have some time to prove it's durability, or lack thereof (cough IMS cough). You know what you have with the 981 durability-wise. You don't know what you will get with the 718 durability-wise.

interesting, so you didn't heed my warnings about the C7 ;). It didn't work for me but I hope it works for you:cheers:. Why in the end did you choose it over a CPO 981?
